This 13-day trip to Nepal is certain to be putting some people out of their comfort zone. After arrival in the capital Kathmandu, there will be little time to get over the jet-lag as we prepare for the next day’s exciting drive to Okhaldhunga where we will implement our project.

A new library is being built and we can’t wait to decorate it and to engage the children there. The project site is about a 10-hr drive east of Kathmandu, located in the district of Okhaldhunga just south of Solukhumbu District – the Everest region. The temperatures in late February range from 15-20 during the day and 8-10 at night. Bring warm clothes; there is no indoor heating!
Due to the actual COVID-Situation in Nepal, we do not have an exact travel date and need to be quite flexible. To join us on the project, you should be free in February or March.

A special thank you goes towards our sponsor for this Project:

This 8-day trip to Romania will be the first time we conduct a summer camp and we are super excited to open the trip for volunteer applications. We will arrive at Iași International Airport and will make our way north to Gura Humorului. It’s about 2,5-3-hour drive. Here we will spend the next week turning a room at the headquarter of a local orphanage into a library.

Approximately 120 children will benefit from this. There is currently NO library – the room was used for meetings and gatherings. We will be decorating and equipping the room with a cosy castle for reading, a beautiful mural and wonderful books to give the children of this school a place of enlightenment and fun. Simultaneously, we will do a summer camp with about 60 children between the ages of 6 – 16.

Vielen Dank! Falemenderit!

ENGLISH VERSION: The time has come - we are setting off to a new Project!

This time we are going to Albania (3rd-10th of October 2021), more precisely to Kukës, a small town in northern Albania.  With 22%, Kukës has the highest poverty rate in the whole of Albania.

Why Albania?

For this year, we shifted our focus towards countries in Europe. During our research, it quickly became clear to us that the lack of education opportunities, especially in countries that were dominated by communism for a long period, is a huge factor when it comes to poverty.

The Project

We are going to spend a week with the children of the Riza Spahiu Advanced Elementary School in Kukës. We will set up a library and establish a computer lab. The computer lab will be connected to the Internet and therefore it will be possible for us to teach the children remotely in the future. During our stay, we will mainly work on the furnishing and renovation, but also build up trust and relationships with the children and  give first English lessons.

Help us to give the children of Kukës better access to education and therefore the opportunity for a brighter tomorrow!

Fundraiser (10.100€)
35.8%

Our volunteers pay their own travel and accommodation costs. The money is needed for the help on site, cost items are:

350-400 books for the library
Computers and computer accessories
Beamer and internet connection
Furniture and equipment (shelves, tables, chairs, flooring)
Teaching materials

We appreciate every donation – every amount helps!

If you are not able to donate right now, we would be happy if you share this page with your friends or potential donors

Thank you very much!

We are proud to announce that Mahrberg Foundation has successfully launched its 6th Mahrberg Library Project in a community learning center in rural Nepal – a project which couldn’t have happened without the love and support from our donors, volunteers and partners.

At the end of November, a group of 15 volunteers traveled from Europe to Kathmandu, Nepal, but this was far from the final destination. A 10-hour jeep ride – along winding and narrow roads at the foothills of the Himalaya – awaited the group before reaching the village Nishankhe in the Okhaldhunga District.

During the 8 days, the local and international volunteers worked tirelessly to decorate the children’s center, install the book shelves and organize the books in the library, set up the computers in the computer lab as well as doing library promotions, art lessons, English classes and fun sports activities.

We can confidently say that that the volunteers had life-changing experiences. Our journey never stops. Mahrberg Foundation will continue to expand its work to different parts of the world so that the children we meet can also live a life for the sake of others through the great examples of Mahrberg Library volunteers.

With the great love and support from our donors, volunteers and partners, the Mahrberg Foundation was able to launch its 5th Mahrberg Library project. After several months of preparation, 20 volunteers from 7 countries headed to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It was an opportunity for the volunteers to spend their summertime to go to a place they had never been, and meeting with children they had never met.

Throughout the 11 days in Ho Chi Minh City, the Mahrberg Library volunteers conducted engaging and fun English lessons, computer classes, sports activities and educational topics in various topics such as Art, Music, Outdoor and Health & Environment.

Whether a project is successful or not cannot be said at first glance. Only when we look back several years later, can we determine the real impact we made by seeing how the children fared, but for now we can confidently say that the volunteers had life-changing experiences – and we know the children had a great time, too.

Our journey never stops. Mahrberg Foundation will continue to expand its work to different parts of the world so that the children we meet can also live a life for the sake of others through the great examples of Mahrberg Library volunteers.

The intention of Mahrberg Library is to give children the opportunity to experience a holistic way of education and growth through a playful and interactive setting. Children have the opportunity to express themselves in arts and music, to learn more about their environment and health, challenge their limits in sports, learn how to utilize a computer and get to know new people from other countries so it can help them overcome barriers in their life.

We emphasise on teaching English so the children can continuously nurture their desire for knowledge through access to the world wide web, the world’s largest library and ongoing conversation with our volunteers from around the world. Most of our volunteers come back from the project with experiences that have changed their attitude towards themselves and life. This is our definition of what mutual growth looks like.

Modern technology gives us great ways of communication, even if you’re thousands of kilometres apart. Using this bridge, our international volunteers give weekly English lessons via the internet filled with joyful activities such as songs, games and stories. As their English skills improve, the children strengthen their bond with the volunteers, and our pursuit of a global network of volunteers and children is one step
